National logistics enterprises and their storages are in that time, when they have to exploit a modern science achievements if they want to keep reputation in their type of business. Sure, gigantic enterprises have new devices for more urgent and advanced agreements and orders and older, used machines for less valuable tasks. Tinier concerens have to use only modern tools to be competitive.

Lifting equipment is main device in all ports and high bay storages. Leading harbours in Poland like Port of Gdańsk or Port of Gdynia with Gdynia and Gdańsk shipyards and big storages in middle part of country are usinga lot of tools allowed to use by polish law. First of all are cranes. In usual usage we have a few main types: overhead, mobile and fixed. First one is ordinaly used inside storages. It can be remotely operated by employee with permission.

It is equipped in a beam on which hook-and-line device is moving. Second is mobile crane. By definition, it may change workplace so it is generally using outside. Last one is called fixed. They are the highest and can lift the heaviest cargos. It is exploit outside because of its amount. Second type of lifting equipment is gantry crane. Mainly used in ports and railway terminal to storing and unloading shipments. First one was made of raw materials by Germans and placed in Danzig (now it is polish city named Gdańsk) and it was built-it inside town fences. Nowadays gantry cranes are mostly set with free place inside. Because of that they are named portal cranes.

Last one, used inside, are configured with storehouse ERP systems an automated storage and retrieval system. It is totally automatic and could be used to placing, retrieving and replacing articles in horizontal and vertical route. With the highest standard of advance they can be used just in one way (only horizontal or vertical) or in a few routes at that same moment.

Without this devices loading and stowing big tank ships could be truly time-consuming and expensive. Investing in modern technologies have to be the primary element in budgets of logistics firms, storages and harbours.
